TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION (TMS)
*What is TMS?
It is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields with specific intensity and frequency to stimulate or inhibit activity of specific regions of the brain.
TMS is generally well-tolerated and safe.
During the session, a coil (which is the magnetic field generator) is placed over the region to be stimulated/inhibited while the patient is seated normally and without any need for analgesia or sedation.
*What are the uses of TMS?
TMS is FDA- approved for use in the treatment of depression.
It is also effective in post-stroke weakness and aphasia.
Recent studies show that TMS is promising in insomnia.
