Digital Electroencephalogram (EEG)

Digital Electroencephalogram (EEG)

               * What is a routine digital EEG?

EEG is a noninvasive test that measures the brain’s electrical activity. It’s one of the most important diagnostic tools that neurophysiologists use to                                                                  detect epilepsy.

It’s essential to note that a single normal routine EEG can NOT rule out epilepsy.

The test becomes more sensitive if used to record brain activity for longer duration or even for a full 24 hours.

The procedure is generally safe and doesn’t pose any major risk.

               * What are the uses of routine digital EEG?

EEG is used to detect abnormal brain waves that may lead to the diagnosis of epilepsy.

Patients presenting with blackouts or who have been diagnosed with brain tumors may benefit from having an EEG test.

EEG is not used to identify levels of intelligence or detect memory problems.
